Welcome to Middle School Math!!!

Hi! My name is Lori Powell. I am so excited to begin my second year at CCS teaching Middle School Math. It is truly a blessing being able to work with these wonderful students and families.

I graduated from ECU in 2010 with a degree in Elementary Education. I actually had I always planned to be a kindergarten teacher, and was a little unsure when I received a job offer to teach 6th grade at Southern Nash Middle School. I nervously accepted the job there, and I am so thankful I did! It was so evident from the beginning that the Lord wanted me to step out of my comfort zone, it did not take me any time to develop a love and passion for working with middle school. I taught math and social studies there, and then moved down to teach 4th grade for one year. At that time, I had my oldest daughter and decided to stay home with her. I began teaching 4 year olds at FUMC Preschool here in Wilson, and was there for 5 years until Peace Church opened Kingdom Kids Child Development Center in 2019. I moved to be the director when they opened. It was an amazing job! I was able to work with great teachers, families, and kids every day. But I missed being in my own classroom. I began praying for the Lord's guidance, and he led me to reach out to CCS. After being with young children for the past 7 1/2 years I transitioned back into the middle school class again! My goal for my classroom is to make sure that each and every child knows they are important, loved, and capable to do amazing things!

I married my amazing husband, Brian, on April 1, 2012. We have 3 children - Emma (8 years old), Colt (7 years old), and Addie Kate (5 years old). We also have 2 dogs, Beckham and Snowflake.
I will utilize Google Classroom to keep assignments and notes up to date. If you are out of school for any reason, or you just need some extra help, our Google Classroom will be your best friend!
I cannot wait to work with you this year! Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns.
