Community Christian crushes Jacksonville Christian, 64-19

Community Christian School used a dominant performance to defeat visiting Jacksonville Christian 64-19 on Monday in a 2-A Mid-Atlantic Christian Conference boys basketball game at Peace Church.

With the win, the Cyclones improved to 3-1 on the season and 2-0 in conference play heading into their Thanksgiving break.

Community Christian put up 26 points in the opening quarter on the way to taking a 40-6 lead at the half.

A trio of players in double figures for CCS was led by Chason Bryant with 13 points.

Tavares Williams followed with 12 points, while Evan Gattis finished with 11 points and Jared Kovach added seven points in the win.

Community Christian head coach Derrick Atkinson was pleased with his team’s balanced scoring attack in the early season contest.

“There will be more battles for us this year than there were last year and I can have two to three players score 20 points in a game if I have to,” Atkinson said. “It was a great team effort tonight.”

With eight days until their next game, the Cyclones’ coach is happy with his team’s start to the season in winning three of their first four games.

“We wanted to start the year strong just to get a little rhythm going,” Atkinson said. “We want to keep the streak going and make sure everything is together and everything is on board defensively and offensively and bought into our system.”

Community Christian is off until Tuesday, Nov. 28, when it visits Faith Christian Academy.
