CCS hangs on in MACAA first round

NEW BERN — Senior pitchers Rylan Gay and Noah Pierce combined on a one-hitter as their Community Christian varsity baseball team won 6-4 at New Bern Christian in the first round of the inaugural Mid-Atlantic Christian Athletic Association playoffs Tuesday.

Gay got the win with four innings of work, allowing three runs, one earned, on one hit and four walks while striking out four. Pierce pitched three hitless innings, allowing an unearned run while walking two and fanning two.

Senior Luke Jones had two of the Cyclones’ six hits and drove in two runs. Pierce was 1 for 3 with a double and two RBIs while senior Evan Barnhill also knocked in a run.

The Cyclones (5-8) will take on Ahoskie Christian in Friday’s MACAA semifinals at Faith Christian in Goldsboro. New Bern Christian concluded 4-5.
