CCS holds school spelling bee

After 21 rounds, and what pronouncer Beverly Boyette determined was the longest spelling bee in CCS school history, 7th-grader Garrett Boswell won on the word "sermon." Two other 7th-grade students rounded out the top three spellers, with Ava Claire Hilburn in second place and Ethan Barnes taking home third.

After 10 rounds, there were 9 competitors left. At Round 12, the pronouncer began using words the spellers had not seen or studied. In Round 15, 5 competitors were left.

We want to thank our judges, Cindy Godwin, Linda Pittman and Debbie Schultze, Ms. Boyette, our proctor Peggy Skinner and our Recorder, Jodi Strange, our language arts teachers, Tiffany Burnette, Jennifer Finberg and Lynnette Barnes, our spelling bee coordinators, Lesley Pierce, Ms. Burnette and Sarah Beamon, our administrators, Dr. Eddie Hicks and Ms. Pierce, and our reception coordinator, Maranda Horst.

Congratulations to all our participating students and all those who helped them study and prepare for today's school spelling bee.
