Mrs. Jo Layne Cafasso - First Grade

Hi! I am Jo Layne Cafasso (Jo, for short) and I will be teaching 1st Grade at CCS this year!  I am so excited to join this fabulous team!  My new colleagues are truly phenomenal and I am lucky to be associated with such outstanding educators!

I was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania...Go Steelers!  I began my working career as a secretary and worked in downtown Pittsburgh for many years, riding the commuter train each day.  I come from a family of teachers, and after having my children - TWIN girls! - I felt the call to attend college (at 28 years old!) and get my teaching degree.  I taught for 5 years in a Christian school in Pennsylvania, coincidentally called Wilson Christian Academy. We then moved to Fayetteville, NC and I taught there in public school for 8 years.  Another move to Oxford afforded me the opportunity to work in a private academy for 6 years and another stint in public school for 2 more years.  My daughters families both moved to the Wilson area during this time and have given me the most beautiful, brilliant granddaughters you've ever seen...so, we HAD to move again, to Wilson, to be near my babies! Last year I taught in Wilson Public Schools.  Feeling the need to "return to my roots", I have come full circle to Christian schooling once more.

I am an artistic person and love to create things by sewing, doing beadwork, drawing, painting, crafts, and my favorite (silk) floral arranging.  I also like to relax by gardening and working in my yard.  I like to read and am a history buff and have attended many Colonial, Medieval and Civil War reenactments.  Our vacations are to places like Gettysburg and Lancaster and state capitals as opposed to the beach or mountains, lol!

We live in a big, old house on 1.35 acres in the country.  I have one little dog, Finnegan, who is an ornery Jack Russell terrier.  He lives inside with us.  We also have about 9 feral, outside cats that have adopted US.  It is so fun to come home at the end of a long day and have all of them come running to greet me! (Actually, they are hungry and know I am the lady that feeds them!)
We also have 8 chickens, 1 HUGE rooster, and 5 baby chicks!  Quite the farm at the Cafasso household!

I look forward to teaching your precious children this year!
