Cyclones lose at final whistle

After a tough home loss to top Mid-Atlantic Christian Athletic Association rival Christ Covenant on a late goal Thursday, the Community Christian girls soccer team suffered another devastating setback Friday at home against Greenville Christian.

With time running out in a scoreless nonconference game, the visiting Knights took a throw-in and took a shot from some 40 yards.

“The ball went to the upper right corner right passed our goalie’s stretched out hands,” said CCS head coach Carl Bradshaw. “It was honestly one of the best shots I have ever seen in high school soccer. After the shot, there was one second left on the clock.”

The Cyclones (8-4) owned a 15-3 advantage in shots but suffered their first shutout of the season. CCS goalkeeper Claire Carter had two saves.

“I spoke with the girls after the game and I told them that we would learn from this and as we get back into conference games next week, we will grow from the losses,” Bradshaw said.

The Cyclones will return to MACAA play Monday at Heritage Christian Academy in Zebulon.
